Over the weekend, Natalie Joy, the wife of Nick Viall, posted a devastating update on Instagram, saying that she had experienced yet another loss.

Just months after revealing the January miscarriage of their second child, Joy spoke candidly about the heartbreaking loss in an Instagram story on Sunday.

“While mourning the loss of our second baby at the beginning of this year, I quickly and very unexpectedly found out I was pregnant again,” she stated. “It took me a while to come to terms with what had happened, but I was given another chance so quickly and effortlessly. But in the end, I discovered a great deal of joy. At last, we reached a state of total and absolute gratitude.

Joy continued by saying that she had to have a dilation and curettage (D&C) treatment since she miscarried again last week, which “was harder than I imagined.”

“It’s going to take some time for me to feel like myself again, and honestly, I may never will, but I hope to keep y’all involved in whatever that may look like,” she said.

“Going back to squeezing my husband and my sweet angel River Rose, who are truly the reason[s] I have survived this time and time,” she wrote as she ended her letter as a dedication to her family.

Along with pictures of his wife playing with their one-year-old, whom they welcomed in February 2024, Viall uploaded his wife’s message on his Instagram story.

“Miscarriage” “refers to a failure or end of pregnancy in any trimester,” Dr. Jennifer Ashton, the former chief medical correspondent for ABC News, stated on “Good Morning America” during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month back in October 2021.

“Generally speaking, a miscarriage in the first and second trimesters is regarded as a stillbirth, and a miscarriage in the third trimester as a stillbirth. There are numerous factors that determine “a woman’s risk for having a miscarriage, but in general, a singular miscarriage is incredibly common,” Ashton said at the time, referring to that as the colloquial phrase. The majority of women frequently experience miscarriages before even realizing they are pregnant.

The American Pregnancy Association states that “chemical pregnancies may account for 50-75% of all miscarriages,” and that “studies reveal that anywhere from 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage.”

According to the organization, miscarriages “can be very difficult” and the “emotional impact usually takes longer to heal than physical recovery does.”

During an episode of Viall’s podcast, “The Viall Files,” in January, Joy first discussed their pregnancy loss and disclosed that she was “actively miscarrying” their second child.

The loss was “the biggest heartbreak, I think, of my life,” she said at the time, acknowledging that “I’ve never experienced something where I feel so empty inside.”

The pair added that they made the decision to tell their tale in order to help those who are experiencing pregnancy loss.

“Our hope for this episode is to just hopefully allow people like Natalie to feel seen that have gone through this experience, because it’s incredibly traumatic for even the dads, but especially the moms,” Viall stated at the time.

“I want to show people… you’re not alone,” Joy continued, adding that they hoped their daughter would one day realize how much they loved the brother they lost.
